Apple is putting assistants and MCP actions into Pages, Keynote and Numbers—first as a US-English beta

The November Creator Studio update will let eligible subscribers draft, calculate and edit inside Apple's productivity apps, while external agents can act through MCP on macOS 27. Apple has not published accuracy, security or productivity results.

The short version

What happened
Apple says beta assistants built on Apple models and OpenAI will work inside Keynote, Pages and Numbers, while Numbers can calculate, visualise and build tables from a request.
Who it affects
Writers, presenters, analysts and teachers may be able to stay inside familiar apps while delegating parts of a task. The practical benefit will depend on language support, device eligibility, subscription access and how much checking or reversal the generated work requires.
What remains unproven

The apps are moving from suggestions to document actions

Apple says its November Creator Studio update will add in-app assistants to Keynote, Pages and Numbers. The Keynote assistant can help design and refine slides; Pages can draft and restructure text; Numbers can calculate, organise data, preview chart choices and build tables using world knowledge. The same release adds an assistant to Logic Pro and generative editing in Pixelmator Pro, but the productivity-app change is the clearest shift toward everyday office work.

A second layer is Model Context Protocol support. On macOS 27, Apple says external agents and tools will be able to read content, make edits and execute automated actions inside the three apps. Keynote also gets an open JSON-based `.keyx` bundle intended for tools and developer workflows. Those interfaces could reduce copying between services, while increasing the importance of permission boundaries, change review and recovery from a wrong action.[1]

Availability is narrower than the headline

The assistants are beta features, limited to US English and require an Apple Intelligence-capable device running iOS 27, iPadOS 27 or macOS 27. MCP requires macOS 27. Apple says the Creator Studio update arrives in November for existing subscribers; UK pricing is £12.99 a month or £129 a year, with a lower education plan. Free versions of Keynote, Pages and Numbers remain available, but the announcement places the new assistant features inside the subscription update.

Apple has not published a task benchmark, error distribution, privacy audit, security test or controlled study of time saved. Workers and students should therefore treat generated text, calculations, charts and agent actions as drafts requiring review. Real availability across languages, explicit controls for external agents and measured correction time would change the assessment.[1]

What this means for people

  • Writers, presenters, analysts and teachers may be able to stay inside familiar apps while delegating parts of a task. The practical benefit will depend on language support, device eligibility, subscription access and how much checking or reversal the generated work requires.

Global context

The launch begins with a narrow language and hardware footprint even though Apple's productivity apps are used internationally. Comparable office suites already offer AI assistance; this announcement is about Apple's integration and agent interface, not proof of better outcomes than competitors.
